Halloween Night at the Cathouse
October 30, 2001
I had only been to Riki Ractman's World Famous Cathouse once back in its
heyday, when my college friend Jan and I caught a relatively unknown band
called Stone Temple Pilots. The Cathouse has recently been resurrected,
but Halloween eve was the first Tuesday night I had free from rehearsal
since its resurrection. Add to the opportunity the fact that two of my
friends' tribute bands, Mr. Crowley and Painkiller, were playing what was
billed as a killer costume party with prizes,
etc.
Don't you love those pictures when everyone's not quite ready for
the camera? Here's some of the haunted spooks that were out on a Tuesday
night, from Left to Right: Chrissy Sixx, Jen "Olympic Gold Medalist" Graham,
Dave "Pro Wrestler dude" Keckhut, Denis "The Grim Moshking" Recendez,
Jeff "Mr. Crowley Keyboard dude" English, and me as the Countess
Dracula. The blank wall behind us was actually used to project old black and
white horror movies, which were of course, washed out by the flash.
Here, RJ "Skeleton" Blaze, Jym "himself" Harris,
Dave "Vampire" Watson, and Tony "Ghostrider" Stray
join Jen and the Moshking for a pose. Although the Cathouse was filled with the usual Hollywood folk and
some friends I hadn't seen in a while, I was disappointed that there
was no costume contest or any general direction to the night. Mr. Ractman
didn't even show up to his own Halloween party, as far as I can tell.
Anyway, with a little more thought and attention, the night could have
been a very well-done masquerade, but Riki Ractman's World Famous Cathouse
was... kinda disappointing. My friends and the bands were top notch,
of course, but there was nothing that made Riki's Cathouse worth a
$13 admission on a Tuesday night. And so now we move onto Halloween
Night!
