About Mel

Greetings! My name is Melanie Ann Sisneros (Sisneros with an "S", and no relation to the politician Henry Cisneros) -- and this here is my website. I was born the second of three daughters and raised in towns large and small in the Land of Enchantment (New Mexico). I graduated from Rio Grande High School in Albuqueque, NM in 1990, and then cum laude from Pomona College in 1994. Having majored in dead languages, namely Latin and Dead Greek, I spent my four undergraduate years as a slave to Liddel and Scott under the wise tutelage of Professor Richard McKirahan. I even managed to study abroad in the College Year in Athens Program in Athens, Greece, where I got my classixx geek jollies in frolicking through ancient ruins and attempting to apply my dead greek skills to the much-changed modern language.

I had such a great time at Pomona, that I found it very hard to leave the warm safe womb of my dear alma mater, so I stayed in sunny sunny Southern California, land of sun sand n surf. My meagre paychecks are now derived from the Pomona College IT department.

But all work and no play makes Mel a dull girl. I love music, particularly music featuring loud, assaultive guitars, thundering bass, and pained screams (aka heavy metal), although I have a nostalgic soft spot in my heart for oldies, classic rock, and those old synthesizer-driven pop hits from the 80's. Regardless, I positively love music! Check out my copious and beloved CD Collection.

I'm such a concert-bunny; In the quarter of a century I've spent on this little blue planet, I've been to over a bazillion concerts without significant hearing loss or permanent injuries. Check the Moshking's Southern California Metal Concert Update to find where I'll be next!

Fortunately, I do have other, quieter hobbies, such as doodling, writing fiction for my own jollies, movies, missing my poor dear cat Feles, trying to find my cowering skittish Desmond and chasing sweet Molly around, comic books, rollerblading, watching cartoons, jaunts to Disneyland and Magic Mountain, and of course, heavy geeking on my Macintosh computers!

You would think that over twelve years after college, I'd've figured out what I want to do when I grow up, but I'm *still* a child just kinda drifting aimlessly through this so-called adult world. In fact, I fancy myself mentally twelve, emotionally 34. I believe that you grow old when you cease to find magic in the world. I certainly don't feel an urgent need to launch myself headlong into the "American Dream" of marriage, 2.5 children, white picket fence, SUV, dog. I don't even like marriage and white picket fences, and children and dogs are better when they belong to someone else. I'm a staunch believer in that all you ever need in life is a good cat (or two... or three... or fifty... or 100... or...).
